Message Of COURSE a flywheel has to do with the balance of the rotating system. They are balanced when they are manufactured, THAT is the reason they are not keyed a particular way. If you wanted you sure could remove some weight on one of the couterweights on the engine, then add the correspondingly correct amount of weight the correct distance out on the flywheel to make up for it, and you WOULD have to key it.
